Mobil will end its Penske sponsorship; Hornish future uncertain

As several outlets reported Tuesday night, there's a fuel-sponsor shakeup afoot in NASCAR at the moment. Shell is leaving Richard Childress Racing for Penske, with several driver changes occurring as a result. Early Wednesday morning, ExxonMobil issued the following statement to Yahoo! Sports:

"ExxonMobil will discontinue its sponsorship relationship with Penske Racing after the 2010 season. It has been a long and successful relationship, and we wish the Penske team continued success on the track.

"Mobil 1 remains "The Official Motor Oil of NASCAR" and the choice of lubricants for more than 50% of the NASCAR teams. ExxonMobil remains fully committed to motorsports and will continue to strongly support Mobil 1 in NASCAR going forward."

What this means for Sam Hornish Jr., driver of the No. 77 Mobil 1 Dodge for Penske, is yet to be seen. We'll be updating this story throughout the day.
