Ladies and gentlemen, time to tune in to TexasMotorSpeedway.com in the Morning!
Dallas country-music morning show host Terry Dorsey has accepted Texas Motor Speedway president Eddie Gossage's offer to change his name for a year and get a tattoo. Dorsey will now be known as TexasMotorSpeedway.com, and will get a TMS tattoo, in addition to a fresh $100,000 in his bank account.
"This may seem a bit crazy, but if you think about it Texas Motor Speedway will have a walking, talking billboard that is a well-known personality in the country's fourth-largest media market," Gossage said in a Tuesday press release. "He also is a race fan that has been broadcasting out at Texas Motor Speedway during our big race weeks since Day 1. Still, our finance guy here nearly had a heart attack when I told him what I did this morning, but I told him to look at it as a one-year 'promotional investment.' "
Dorsey consulted with his wife to make the call, though there's no word if he actually negotiated a bit. Maybe $150K? Maybe going by "Terry TexasMotorSpeedway.com?"
Ah, well. Dorsey's happy, Gossage is happy, everybody's happy. Well, except for the thousands of commenters on our previous story, almost all of whom were willing to sell out. So what would it take to get you folks to change your names to "Yahoo! Sports' FromTheMarbles.com?"
[UPDATE: Okay, it looks like this may all be an elaborate hoax. Remember what date Thursday is, after all. We're working on confirmation one way or another.]
