Good news for Richard Petty Motorsports, as the team that was apparently days from dissolution last year is now up off the deck and bringing aboard new sponsors. Latest to join up is power tools powerhouse DeWalt, which has signed on to sponsor Marcos Ambrose for the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
DeWalt will switch between the hood and the quarter panel on Ambrose's No. 9 Ford Fusion. (Remember, Kasey Kahne is gone. I know, it'll take a little while to get used to it all. Fear not.)
Anyway, you recall that DeWalt used to be with Matt Kenseth but exited the sport a couple years back. Let's go to the corporatespeak! "DeWalt is well-positioned to re-enter the sport and partner with Richard Petty Motorsports to sponsor Marcos Ambrose for the 2011/2012 season," said Jon Howland, the company's director of brand marketing. "We value the opportunity to engage with our end-users through this platform, and we feel that Richard Petty, a NASCAR Hall of Famer and seven-time NASCAR Cup champion, and his race team, will represent our brand well." We can only hope so.
One may wonder why DeWalt would alternate between sponsoring the hood and the quarterpanel of Ambrose's car. Let's put it this way: you know how some places will sponsor the soles of weak boxers' shoes, knowing those would be shown to the world soon enough? Considering how much Ambrose has a tendency to spin, well ... you can connect the dots, right?
