As we head into Martinsville, we talk to a guy who's ridden the rollercoaster like nobody else this season -- Alan Gustafson, the crew chief for Mark Martin's No. 5 Kellogg's Chevy team.
Alan talks about what went wrong with the 5 team early and what's gone right since then. He also walks us through a lot of scenarios that a crew chief has to keep in mind -- how to choose a pit box, how to keep your team coordinated and focused on the job at hand, and how to work with your driver to make sure neither one of you loses your mind at the other.
From there, it's a natural enough transition to Kyle Busch, who worked with Alan when both were rookies on the Sprint Cup circuit. Both achieved their first victory together, and Alan talks about Kyle's many strengths as a driver. We wrap with Alan talking about what keeps him coming back to the track, week after week, year after year.
