Hey, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Reasoning that the baseball playoffs are a good opportunity to have a little fun, the Atlanta Motor Speedway and Infineon Raceway have set up a little wager over the current playoffs between their respective local baseball franchises, the Atlanta Braves and the San Francisco Giants.
Now, the bet isn't huge, like a race date or something like that. No, it's a fairly standard, straightforward food bet -- in this case, peaches vs. wine.
"The wager between the Speedway Motorsports, Inc. tracks will feature each betting local fare," the tracks indicated in a press release. "The Speedway from the Peach State will offer homegrown Georgia peaches, while Infineon Raceway, nestled in the scenic Sonoma Valley, will offer some of the region's outstanding wine."
Neither track is scheduled to host a NASCAR event for nearly a year; the Sprint Cup series returns to the road course in June 2011, and to Atlanta on Labor Day weekend of next year. But the bet will be settled much sooner than that, perhaps even before the end of this weekend's other California race.
Oh, and who are we rooting for around these parts? Put it this way -- the Intimidator isn't wearing a San Francisco Giants hat, is he?
