Another out: Jeff Burton’s crew chief shown the door

And the crew chief shuffle continues: in an unsurprising move, the No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet team has relieved Todd Berrier of crew chief duties. The team announced that Luke Lambert, team engineer for the No. 31, will serve as interim chief.

This will be Lambert's first crew chief job. Berrier, as is always the way, will remain with the company for "reassignment" to an as-yet-undisclosed position.

Burton's decline has been one of the most precipitous in the sport. Just one season after making the Chase, Burton is mired at 25th in the standings, with zero top 10s. His only quality finishes have come in non-points races; he placed 9th in the Sprint Showdown and won his Gatorade Duel. And that's been it.

Team owner Richard Childress said that Lambert will be the interim crew chief until further notice. And there's probably no better way to learn than in a low-pressure, can't-get-any-worse environment than Burton's in right now.
