China will now have access to the UFC, according to a press release sent out by Zuffa today. Inner Mongolia Television has signed on to carry UFC programming, including "UFC Unleashed," "The Ultimate Fighter," and "UFC All Access." They will also have the option to show previously aired pay-per-view cards.
“Obviously China is a huge market and the Chinese understand the martial arts probably better than anyone else in the world. It’s a no brainer that UFC programming will be appreciated in China, and will become a big hit for the NMTV network,” said Dana White, UFC President.
This deal gives the UFC a shot at being in 80 million households across China. The UFC is following the likes of McDonald's in looking for Chinese dollars. It's an incredibly smart move, considering how the Chinese people have happily gobbled up American exports. The Olympics showed the world on a large stage just how much the Chinese people love and will support sports.
The UFC is already aired in Japan on WOWOW, so it will be interesting to see if the UFC takes the next step and puts together a fight card in Asia. One thing is for sure, Rampage Jackson would insist on being on that card.
