Tito Ortiz talked a lot of smack during his time on top of the mixed martial arts world. He's now become as easy target. The former UFC champ, sidelined into the middle of 2009 after back surgery, was called out again by Babalu Sobral. Babalu knocked off Bobby Southworth to win the Strikeforce light heavyweight title on Friday and then mocked on Ortiz saying that he won't be wearing his belt to the grocery store like Tito.
This was a nice win against Southworth but certainly way down on the list of his biggest victories. He actually scoffed when MMARated's Ariel Helwani suggested that it was one of the biggest moments of his career.
He also has wins over Shogun Rua, Cyrille Diabate, Chael Sonnen and Maurice Smith. Give him credit, he'll fight anyone. He actually stepped in to the ring with heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko back in 2001.
Babalu is an interesting character. He's amongst the top 12 light heavyweights in the world but he's not in the UFC after losing his cool against David Heath. It does mean he's in a position to fight for anyone, anywhere and develop strenghten his reputation as the best non-UFC 205-pounder. Bloody Elbow has 16 of the top 20 light heavyweights in the world in the UFC.
Babalu is a relatively small 205-pounder. It would be nice to see him try to cut down to 185 and work his way back into the UFC. He'd present some problems for Anderson Silva if he ever got the shot.
