Randy Couture may not speak in brash tones but the people around him certainly are as he readies to defend his heavyweight title at UFC 91. His wife Kim and coach Shawn Tompkins have had plenty to say about Brock Lesnar's trash talk.
"He can say whatever he wants," Kim told Yahoo! Sports on Thursday morning after her own boxing workout. "But when that cage door locks he's going to have to convince himself of all of the crap he talks. That's not really going to save him."
She says Lesnar's disrespectful demeanor is to be expected from a guy who made his name in pro wrestling:
"He's just wants the attention. He's kind of glory hungry. Randy will never stoop to that level. Randy's actions will speak louder than words. I think in this fight we're going to see Randy make him feel old."
Tompkins told Adam Hill of the Las Vegas Review-Journal that Lesnar has potential but Couture is on another level:
Kim Couture thinks it's business as usual in spite of the fact that her husband returns from a 15 month layoff and the opponent will have a 50 lb. weight advantage.
"He's not worried about anything. The last two guys (Tim Sylvia and Gabriel Gonzaga) were big and experienced. Sylvia has much more experience and is very technical. That was probably the worst out of the three. So I don't think he's worried at all."
Couture declined to speak about her legal fight against Affliction's Todd Beard. On Thursday, she won a restraining order against the apparel company's owner. She alleged that Beard has made several threatening phone calls. It's also come to light that Beard has several felony convictions for fraud for which he served 30 months in prison, has dealt with previous allegations of violence against women and plead no contest recently in California to threatening Karlos Shaverdian's life. Couture did clarify that neither she or Randy were actually in court for the restraining order proceedings on Wednesday morning in Las Vegas.
