Some newspapers are taking mixed martial arts a little more seriously. While much of the old guard still refuses to cover the sport and pens ridiculous editorials and stories aimed at riling up their aging readership, USA TODAY has jumped on board with a blog and regular stories from Beau Dure.
Today, MMA was on the front page of the sports section and got a half -page inside the section with the introduction of MMA rankings provided by BloodyElbow.com.
The rankings are a compilation of 20 different websites. Unlike the Yahoo! Sports pound-for-pound list, the rankings run down the top 25 in seven different weight classes. This is great exposure for MMA and further proof that boxing is lagging behind. There is no real collection of boxing rankings that get any sort of exposure.
CageWriter.com currently participates in the WAMMA ranking system.
