With Ultimate Fight Night 19 and UFC 103 happening within four days and 200 miles of each other, you have a chance to take a short vacation and catch 23 UFC fights.
Tuesday or Wednesday: Fly into Dallas. Since it's a much bigger airport than Oklahoma City, you can get a much cheaper deal flying into Dallas. You'll need to rent a car anyway, so you may as well save on your airfare. As soon as you get to Dallas, head up I-35 to Oklahoma City.
Wednesday night: Ultimate Fight Night 19 at the Cox Center in downtown Oklahoma City, featuring Nate Diaz vs. Melvin Guillard and Gray Maynard vs. Roger Huerta. Before and after, head to Bricktown for dinner and drinks. I highly recommend Zio's for yummy Italian, and you can find plenty of nightlife options in Bricktown.
Thursday: You can use this day to explore Oklahoma, which can be interesting and fun. If you stay in OKC, I strongly encourage you to check out the Oklahoma City National Memorial, which honors the victims of the 1995 Alfred P. Murraugh Federal Building. Also, don't forget about the National Cowboy Hall of Fame.
You can also take the hour drive up to Stillwater, Okla., the home of Oklahoma State University, one of the best wrestling schools in the country and the alma mater of fighters Randy Couture, Don Frye, Mark Munoz, Johny Hendricks and Mo Lawal. Check out the school and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame to learn the history of a sport so integral to MMA. For dining options, go to Red Rock Bakery and Deli or Eskimo Joe's.
Friday: Take the trip back down I-35 to Dallas. It should take just over three hours, and you can count the oil rigs along the way. Weigh-ins usually start around 4 p.m. Central Time, and if you're a Fight Club member, you can go to the Q and A before weigh-ins. Afterwards, grab dinner at Craft, Palomino or the always dependable Hooters, restaurants that are all close to the arena.
Saturday: Conspiracy theorists and history buffs should check out the Sixth Floor Museum, the museum dedicated to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Those seeking a less academic attraction should head to Zero Gravity Thrill Amusement Park. The undercard is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. CT for UFC 103.
On Sunday, recover and head home, amazed at the fact that you saw so many fights in such a short time.
