It was a rare off weekend for MMA, as none of the major organizations had fights. That leads me to the thought that Dana White and the Easter Bunny might be the same person. Have you ever seen them in the same place? Me neither.
-- Speaking of White, he announced via Twitter that Jon Fitch vs. Thiago Alves II will now happen at UFC 115 in Vancouver. (I assume it's a fight announcement. If it's not, White has a very specific verbal tic in which he randomly tweets the names of two fighters and then a city.)
That bout was supposed to happen at UFC 111, but was postponed when officials found an abnormality in Alves' brain. Now that it's been fixed, we'll get to see the rematch of their 2006 bout. Fitch won that one by TKO.
-- UFC lightweight champ B.J. Penn said in an interview with MMA Weekly that if he wins this Saturday over Frankie Edgar at UFC 112, he will consider testing the waters at welterweight. If he does make the move, he said he'll move slow.
-- Everyone's favorite Strikeforce heavyweight champion was in action this weekend doing anything but defending his Strikeforce heavyweight belt. Alistair Overeem easily knocked out Dezvad Poturak at K-1 World Grand Prix. Next up for Overeem: a title defense against Brett Rogers on May 15 in St. Louis.
