Lightweight Melvin Guillard was released by the UFC Thursday night, according to a report from MMA Fighting. The fighter's agent, Malki Kawa, told the outlet that he is looking to get "The Young Assassin" signed to a new organization.

"We're working to get him signed somewhere else," he said.

"I'm going to do what's best for Melvin."

Guillard lost his last fight, to Michael Johnson, via unanimous decision March 8. Before that, Guillard had a no contest with Ross Pearson and a KO win over Mac Danzig. However, Guillard has lost five out of his last seven bouts and UFC president Dana White was very critical of the fighter's performance against Johnson.

Guillard promised violence and called Johnson a coward prior to the two former training partners' fight. White felt that what the TUF veteran delivered fell short of his pre-fight smack talk.

"There’s no doubt Melvin ran the entire fight and was incredibly passive, the complete opposite of how he used to fight," White said.

"There was a lot of smack talk leading up to that fight, and those are the fights that everybody gets excited about, and nine times out of 10 they end up like tonight. Those drive me crazy."
