Kimbo lives a viewer's dream tonight on ABC

Who wouldn't love to punch magicians David Blaine or Criss Angel? Kimbo Slice gets to live out all our fantasies this evening on ABC. More importantly, it's more network television facetime for Kimbo as he tries to deliver a big audience for EliteXC's Oct. 4 CBS card.

Blaine's 'Dive of Death' will be featured during a two-hour special this evening on ABC from 9-11p ET. During the special there is a segment with Kimbo punching Blaine in the gut. Why you ask would Blaine allow the 6-foot-2, 235 pound Kimbo to belt him in the stomach? It's actually a play on the death of legendary magician Harry Houdini.

Esther Lin comments for on the 'stunt':

The rather physically fit Blaine claims he chose Kimbo because the fighter is one of the few people he fears. But faced with Kimbo’s clenched fist before him, Blaine does look visibly nervous. He asks his audience of gym employees and Kimbo’s entourage, “Is this stupid?” David Blaine simply stands in the middle of the cage, lifts up his shirt to prove he’s not hiding any protective material, and asks Kimbo to punch him. And after? Kimbo is wowed by David Blaine’s resistance to his gut shot. Kimbo’s manager jokingly asks, “Hey, is this going to make Kimbo look weak?”

Frankly, the segment sounds stupid but it's another good example of how much crossover appeal Kimbo has and it's a huge coup for the fighter to be featured on network television less than two weeks before his big fight against Ken Shamrock.

Hopefully, Blaine tells the story why that gut shot is significant. It turns out that Houdini claimed that he could take stomach blows from anyone. In 1926, Houdini was approached in Montreal by a student from McGill University, J. Gordon Whitehead who wanted to test the magician's abdominal mettle. Whitehead smashed Houdini with several blows and the magician seemed to be unfazed. One problem, the 52-year old was suffering from appendicitis. Houdini died just nine days later with a ruptured appendix on Halloween.
