In between rounds during what turned out to be his historic upset over then-bantamweight champion Renan Barao, TJ Dillashaw was jokingly told by his coach Duane Ludwig that he was giving the Brazilian a seminar in fighting and that he wasn't even charging for it. No one could take offense at a coaching prodding on their charge in the midst of battle but someone at Dillashaw's Team Alpha Male took the joke a bit further recently and Jose Aldo was not amused.
The above photo recently appeared on Urijah Faber's Instragram page, mocking Barao. Barao's teammate and UFC featherweight champion took offense at the Instragram post and told MMA Fighting that he and Barao's Nova Uniao team would soon get revenge on Alpha Male.
"By their logic, how many times would we have to sign Urijah Faber in an MMA seminar at Nova Uniao?" Aldo asked in irritation.
Aldo has beat Faber once and Barao beat the Team Alpha Male leader twice. Aldo also knocked Chad Mendes out in 2012 and will face him again this year.
"It was lack of respect. We always defeat them, Faber always lost to us and we never did that. We always respected them. We always tried to help them, like when they came here to the gym. We never disrespected them. But it’s cool. Let’s be patient, we will meet again. I have a fight coming up with Chad, and Barao, God willing, will fight Dillashaw again and we will get the payback," Aldo continued.
Aldo seemed to suggest that Barao lost to Dillashaw because his head had gotten swollen.
"Let’s say Barao was more relaxed than the other fights, he thought he would get in there as the champion, throw a punch and get the knockout,. He didn’t have his feet on the ground, a good head," he said.
"Two days before the fight, Dana White said Barao was the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet, that he could knock out every fighter, and maybe that made him underestimate Dillashaw, who got there humbly and showed how things work."
Later, Barao's name was scratched out on the Duane Ludwig seminad sign up sheet and re-posted on Instragram with the following text: "So hopefully now everyone can settle down and quit acting like babies over a joke some members in the gym played. @urijahfaber had nothing to do with this post. Relax people! We know how amazing Renan Barao is! Name removed!!!"
