One of the many benefits with the growth of mixed martial arts is the lucrative appearance business. Legends like Chuck Liddell and Matt Hughes can pull down some solid cash. Hughes is appearing at a Buffalo Wild Wing in Orlando, the night before UFC 97. After years of making little or no money, it's good to see some of the fighters cashing in a la former MLB or NFL superstars. This appears to be a side deal for Hughes and not part of his promotional agreement with the UFC. He's promoting a wrestling mat company.
For Hughes, it's also a good way to begin pushing his UFC 98 fight against Matt Serra. Serra sat down with Newsday in New York for a video and described why his dislike of Hughes is far from scripted.
Hughes has been wise with his money. He mentions on his blog that he just purchased 16 additional acres next to his property. He's posted some video of his truck in a huge mudhole.
