When 500 lbs. beef collides in the Octagon it's hard to see the two fighters going the distance. Antoni Hardonk and Mike Wessel put on a helluva show before Wessel came up empty on technique and in the gas tank.
Wessel, who is new to MMA after serving as a strength and conditioning coach at the University of Arkansas, took the fight on short notice. His lack of experience showed in two key scenarios.
He took a load of damage from the taller Hardonk when the Dutch kickboxer crushed him with 10-15 knees to the body and head, using a strong Thai clinch. Then in the second, Wessel had top control but was swept easily by Hardonk. He got to a mount position on Wessel and pounded him with elbows and punches for nearly 65 seconds before the fight was stopped with 2:52 left in the second.
This fight is in the early running for Fight of the Night. It would have to be a slow night the rest of the way for the fellas to get the bonus. But you never know.
