The MMA career hasn't exactly gone the way Mike Whitehead hoped, and now the season two "Ultimate Fighter" cast member is wanted for questioning concerning an alleged sexual assault, and possible drug charges according to tweets from Adam Hill of the Las Vegas Review-Journal from a report on KLAS CBS 8 in Las Vegas.
Update I: Cagewriter and MMAJunkie spoke with a Las Vegas Metro P.D. public information officer
"I want to make it perfectly clear (that) there is no arrest warrant out for him," said Barbara Morgan.
Morgan told Cagewriter that the police entered the residence and found at least 50 marijuana plants. At that point, the narcotics unit was called in.She said Whitehead is linked to the marijuana as well.
Morgan told MMAJunkie the LVPD has contacted Whitehead and expects him to speak to detectives in the next 24 hours. He is the sole suspect in the sexual-assault case, she said.
"He's not on the run; he's not hiding," Morgan said. "I'm sure he'll probably talk to our detectives. We just need to get his side of the story."
On the sexual assault allegations, Morgan would not elaborate with Cagewriter saying,
"It is an ongoing investigation."
Upate II: According to this story posted on LVRJ.com at 1:42 p.m. ET on Thursday, White was arrested in Las Vegas.
A mixed martial arts fighter was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of sexual assault, Las Vegas police said Thursday. Police said Michael Whitehead, who has fought in Strikeforce and participated in the reality show "The Ultimate Fighter 2" on Spike TV, faces several charges including sexual assault, attempted sexual assault and open and gross lewdness.
Whitehead (24-8) was a hot heavyweight prospect back in 2005. He fought out of Pat Miletich's camp in Iowa and was a favorite of coach Matt Hughes on the show. Whitehead never got off during his fight with Rashad Evans in the first round of TUF 2 and lost the match. Hughes had a tough time containing his disgust.
Whitehead, who walks around between 250-285 pounds, fought once for the UFC, losing to Keith Jardine in a light heavyweight fight at UFC 57. He moved on to fight with promotions like Affliction, M-1, the IFL and Strikeforce. His most recent fight was a loss in just over three minutes against Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal in December of 2009.
