'Fancy Pants' Beerbohm ekes out split decision win

In a bout featuring two fighters who both had been away from the cage for more than six months, Lyle "Fancy Pants" Beerbohm beat Victor "Shaolin" Ribeiro, 30-27, 28-29, 29-28 at Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery.

The two showed off their ring rust in the first round, clinching often and pushing each other into the cage. The crowd at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis was unhappy with the grapplefest as they booed several times.

Things improved in the second round, as Beerbohm used leg kicks to attack Ribeiro. "Shaolin" answered with a takedown and an armbar attempt. Beerbohm rolled out of the armbar to bring the fight back to standup, but Ribeiro repeated his attack, with another armbar attempt, but he wasn't able to end the fight.

In the third round, Ribeiro continued showing off his submission prowess, working another armbar that Beerbohm somehow managed to get out of. Beerbohm answered with more standup attacks, continuing to avoid the Ribeiro submission.

The last time Riberio took to the cage, he lost to Shinya Aoki in the summer of 2009, while Beerbohm's last bout was a win over Josh Martin in September of 2009.
