Eddie "Truck" Gordon was criticized for winning his TUF 19 season bouts by decision but he won the middleweight finals with a decisive first round TKO against Dhiego Lima Sunday night. Lima conceded the center of the cage from the start and allowed the Serra/Longo fighter to back him against the cage before ever attempting his own offense.
Gordon landed an overhand right hand that hurt the Brazilian a minute into the round. Lima was buckled by the shot and never got a chance to recover as Gordon landed more overhand rights to the temple and back of the head, in addition to some hammerfists and uppercuts until Lima was prone on the canvas and the referee called a halt to the action.
The win is the second big one for the Long Island Matt Serra/Ray Longo gym this weekend. Saturday, in the main event of UFC 175, Chris Weidman successfully defended his middleweight title against Lyoto Machida. Tonight, Gordon expressed his gratitude to Weidman for getting him into MMA and for leading the way.
"He got me into this sport," Gordon said of Weidman. I don't know where I'd be without him."
With the win, Gordon earned a contract with the UFC and a Harley Davidson motorcycle.
