UFC lightweight Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone knocked Adriano Martins out with a flush shin kick to the head in the first round of their UFC on Fox 10 main card bout Saturday night in Chicago. The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt was actually getting the better of the stand up striking early on in the first round before guessing wrong with a block and eating the head kick from Cerrone.
Cerrone appeared to be rocked by several of Martins' early punches but stayed composed and landed his first real significant strike of the bout when Martins lowered his arms to block a kick to the body as "Cowboy" instead threw it high. It was all he needed.
The Brazilian was out on contact and fell to the floor.
The referee stepped in before any follow up strikes could be delivered by Cerrone. The win is the brash fighter's second straight finish.
"I'm making another run for the belt," Cerrone said, post-fight.
"I'm right here. I want to fight six times this year, I'm right here."
The loss snapped a six-fight win streak for Martins. His record falls to 25-7 and Cerrone's improves to 22-6.
