In a fight that showed off not only a bevy of jiu-jitsu skills, but a smart crowd in Chicago that recognized when fighters would hit side control, and advance in position, Rafael Dias won by unanimous decision in a three-round bout.
Dias started every round with a takedown. He escaped several submission attempts by Budnik, including a heel hook early on and an arm bar later in the fight. Budnik also outlasted a Dias guillotine to end the first round.
This fight was fought at a catchweight, as Budnik did not make weight. Budnik surrendered 20 percent of his purse to Dias for not making weight.
