No one could walk away from the main event at Ultimate Fight Night 18 saying they were dissatisfied except Carlos Condit and the folks from Arizona Combat Sports. Condit's battle against Martin Kampmann was a great showcase for the sport on free television. The fight was waged all over the cage. There was good standup, kicks, plenty of takedowns and slick work on the ground. Both fighters had their moments which made it nearly impossible to score.
A draw in boxing is usually greeted with moans, groans and cries of the fix. But the draw or 10-10 rounds may be useful in MMA. If not, maybe it's time to experiment by making all main events, five rounds instead of three. This is two straight cards where a fourth and fifth round were necessary. We probably would've had a more solid conclusion back at UFC 96 between Quinton Jackson and Keith Jardine. And both fighters at the UFN 18 main event, deserved a shot at truly locking up the victory.
During the postfight press conference. Condit put the blame for the loss on himself:
Bloody Elbow has a reader poll up with 40-percent of the respondents saying Condit won 29-28 and 41-percent saying Kampmann won 29-28.
