Frank Shamrock hates Strikeforce middleweight champ Jake Shields. That's fine. But he does come off poorly during his gigs as a fight analyst for Strikeforce when he smashes the kid. Shamrock had to swallow his pride on national television back in April after trashing Shields before and during his fight against Dan Henderson. When Shamrock was face-to-face with Shields during a postfight interview he had to apologize to his face.
Shields didn't exactly bury the hatchet. It was more of an "apology-not-accepted" kind of reaction, and now we know why. Now that Shields isn't standing right next to him, Shamrock, ever the company man, was pounding the hell out of the fighter.
"If the guy wants to leave, let him leave. He sucks as a fighter," said Shamrock. "He's terribly boring. We're in the business of sports entertainment, if you're not going to be an entertaining fight then you should move on."
Did I miss something here? Is Strikeforce cutting or firing Shields? Didn't he just beat its big free-agent acquisition? Doesn't he hold a belt in a weight class above his normal weight? Everyone's entitled to their opinion. Maybe Shamrock is right; Shields is overrated and boring. Can we back that up with some facts?
