Azerbaijani wrestler Bakhtiyar Abbasov took it to former Olympic wrestler and undefeated MMA fighter Ben Askren right away in their ONE FC bout today in Singapore. Abbasov scored an impressive double leg take down and slam in the opening seconds of the welterweight bout, surprising the crowd and perhaps Askren himself.
However, Askren moved deftly from his back, ultimately scrambling and reversing position. From there, "Funky" Ben held Abbasov down and battered him with strikes for the rest of the round until the American secured an arm triangle choke and forced a submission.
Askren immediately called out ONE FC welterweight champion Nobutatsu Suzuki, saying that the two should meet one another next. Askren stayed perfect in his MMA career, improving to 13-0 in this, his first fight since being released by Bellator as their reigning 170 pound champion.
