Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin have really taken the UFC heavyweight division by storm. Both guys walk around at nearly 300 pounds and are making 260-pounders like Frank Mir feel small. Both guys demolished Mir, and their power edge seemed to make the difference. It now has Mir, a former UFC heavyweight champ, thinking about a drop to light heavyweight. That's 205 pounds! Mir is a huge dude who even when trim, is 6-foot-3 and 240. Sounds ridiculous, right? Mir confirms he's thinking about (0:45 mark) the move down.
Mir is using Forrest Griffin as an example. Griffin walks around between 235 and 245. He seems to be the abnormal, not the typical light heavyweight. Dropping 30 pounds is a bit outrageous. The days of the 230-250 elite heavyweight are far from done. Just take a look at Junior Dos Santos, Fedor Emelianenko and Cain Velasquez. It just comes down to technique and game-planning, right? Or will Carwin and Lesnar prove to be unstoppable forces?
