Congrats, Carlos Pena, you've hit the tastiest homer of the week.
Pena – the newest Texas Ranger, called up Tuesday after signing a minor-league deal with the team last week — blasted a homer Thursday night in the Rangers' loss to the Detroit Tigers. It was a notable homer because it was Pena's first since June 20 of last year when he was with the Houston Astros.
It was also notable because the ball landed in a tub of brisket out in the right field. Given all the crazy food offered at the Rangers' Global Life Ballpark, this was bound to happen eventually. Home-run trick-shot status, unlocked!
Now the ball is both a souvenir and a conversation piece:
"See, that scuff is where Pena hit the ball. That's the barbecue sauce stain. Yeah, I licked it off. Texas forever!"
