White Sox bringing back '83 uniforms as alternates — but with strange cap

Until they switched to the current black pinstriped uniforms late in the 1990 season, the  Chicago White Sox went through a period in the 1970s and '80s where they wore outfits that most people disliked, and universally so. But nostalgia does funny things to taste, and when the team brought back the "1983 Winning Ugly" era duds for Sunday games in 2013, they were a hit. They were popular enough with the players, apparently, that the Sox will keep the retros as alternate uniforms for 2014. One difference: The "Swinging Sox Guy," the team's logo in the late '70s and early '80s, will appear on the alternate cap — only the "Sox" won't be there. Just the guy. Here's the original look:

It's almost like a shark came along and snapped "Swinging Sox Guy" in two and ate the "Sox" part. It's kind of abstract and weird without "Sox."
