Upset! Upset! Upset! Atlanta Braves stuck with Glass Joe Title after losing series to New York Mets

It sure has been an exciting and unlikely week in the life of Big League Stew's Glass Joe Titles, which throw shame on getting a series KO. The Atlanta Braves — a first-place team in their division — have turned the Glass Joe rankings upside down after losing a five-game series to the New York Mets. And now the Braves, one of the most consistent winners in baseball, are the National League Glass Joes. They join another perennial winner, the Yankees, who recently became the AL Glass Joes.

It's a riveting development. Especially since it was the first home series the Braves have lost this season. Braves fans can blame Matt Harvey and Zack Wheeler. Oh, and B.J. Upton, because everything is his fault.

If you're wondering what the heck all this Glass Joe talk is, here's an FAQ:

• It's adapted from Eye On Baseball's Heavyweight Championship Belt. Only the opposite. It's for losers.

• It's named after Glass Joe, a 1-99 boxer from the "Punch-Out" video game series.

• The Glass Joe Title is like a hot potato that no team wants to be left holding. If the current Glass Joe beats another team in a series — no ties, only a legit series win — they are free from Glass Joe-ness. It doesn't need to be a sweep either. Just a series win.

• It's for fun. Don't get so bent out of shape.

We're shocked, actually, to see both the AL and NL Glass Joes are teams with winning records. The New York Yankees are 39-33, and they took the AL Glass Joe dishonor after losing to the Angels recently. The Braves, meanwhile, are 43-31. It's like Glass Joe buffed up and knocked out Piston Honda and Bald Bull.

The good news for the Braves is they're playing the Milwaukee Brewers this weekend and have a chance to quickly send the Glass Joe Title back to a last-place team. The Yankees are in the middle of a four-game series with Tampa Bay Rays. The Yanks lost Thursday, which means they need to win the next three to relieve themselves of the Glass Joe burden.

We'll be watching closely.

Baseball season's in full swing. Don't miss a thing.
