A toast to the 2013 St. Louis Cardinals

Big League Stew

Editor's note: Our MLB Toasts got derailed during the stretch run and postseason, but we're back to say goodbye to the rest of the league. Follow @BigLeagueStew on Twitter and await our call for submissions for more toasts. Next up, the St. Louis Cardinals.

The St. Louis Cardinals were close. They almost had it all. Alas, 2013 wasn't their year to win another World Series. But, hey, a National League pennant isn't anything to scoff at. So raise those glasses high, Cardinals, and have your toast.

To the Cardinals, for having more rookies than a set of baseball cards. To the Cardinals, for teaching us even more about The Cardinal Way this season. To the Cardinals, for having a great DJ. For giving us Michael Wacha and the Fozzie Bear jokes. For letting us all share Mike Matheny's jacket. To the Cardinals, for being loved by the Best Fans in Baseball, but hated for lots of other fans in baseball. It's fun to watch.

We're not going to bogart this toast. Here's what a couple of people had to say about the 2013 Cardinals. Add your own toast in the comments.

ALREADY: Houston Astros, Miami Marlins, Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox, Milwaukee Brewers, San Francisco Giants, New York Mets, Colorado Rockies, Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego Padres, Minnesota Twins, Seattle Mariners, Toronto Blue Jays, Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Angels, Washington Nationals, Los Angeles Dodgers, Baltimore Orioles, New York Yankees.

UP NEXT: Got a toast for a team we haven't featured yet? Send it to @BigLeagueStew on Twitter and watch the #MLBToasts hashtag. We're working on the Rays, Indians, A's and Rangers, among others.

Pennant races are here. Spend the stretch run with us.
