The Mets take the field without a first baseman because they're the Mets

Paging Ike Davis, Ike Davis to first base, please.

Davis, the New York Mets' starting first baseman for opening day, slightly delayed the start of Monday's game because he didn't take the field with his teammates. After all the trade talk during the offseason, maybe he was expecting a last-second deal?

Other theories: Was Davis simply not paying attention? In the bathroom? Posting opening-day selfies to Instagram? Was he waiting for Keith Hernandez to show up and take over?

For a team whose unfortunateness has inspired an LOLMets meme, stuff like this seems inevitable. Sorry, Mets fans. However, there was good news at Citi Field: Andrew Brown of the Mets hit the first homer of opening day, a three-run jack off Washington Nationals ace Stephen Strasburg in the second inning.

That was enough to make the Citi Field fans stop wondering where Ike Davis was.
