Considering the world champion San Francisco Giants played more home games than any other sports franchise this calendar year, you probably wouldn’t be shocked to learn their home, AT&T Park, was revealed as the most frequently Instagrammed — photographed and shared via Instagram — sports venue in 2012.
Well, number of home games is one factor anyway.
It probably doesn't hurt that AT&T Park is among the most visibly appealing sports venue in any of the major sports, with features such as McCovey Cove. It offers a wide variety of food choices, which people seem to really enjoy photographing and posting on social media sites these days. And also plays host to several other events during the year. That includes Saturday's Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl between Navy and Arizona State.
However, you might be a surprised to hear how well the ballpark by the bay held up against some of the most famous entertainment venues and historical landmark locations throughout the entire world.
In a list released by Instagram on Thursday, AT&T Park actually came in as the fifth most Instagrammed location in the world, ranking behind the Suvarnabhumi Airport and Siam Paragon respectively in Bangkok, Thailand, Disneyland and Times Square.
That's it. It even finished three spots ahead of the Eiffel Tower, if you can believe that.
Unfortunately, Instragram doesn't put an exact number or even a rounded estimate on the amount of photos taken at AT&T Park, but it does note that over 100,000 photos were taken at the No. 1 location. But wait, AT&T Park wasn’t the only baseball stadium that finished among the top ten. Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles came in two spots later, with LAX falling in between. So not only will the Dodgers be chasing the Giants for the National League West division crown on the field, their fans may also be motivated to make their stadium — and its $100 million worth of renovations — the most photographed sports venue in 2013.
