Prince Fielder: ‘I sucked’ with the Tigers

Prince Fielder has had many critics regarding his 2013 season with the Detroit Tigers, one that included a big power drop overall and a disastrous experience in the playoffs.

It turns out that one of those critics is Prince Fielder. With a self-deprecating tone, Fielder acknowledged his recent results (.279/.362/.457, with a career-low 25 home runs) weren't nearly good enough. Via Fox TV in Detroit:

"Everybody was on me a little bit about my performance, but rightfully so," said Fielder. "I sucked, but I didn't have to be reminded of it. Hopefully, we can make some better memories here."

Fielder will bat third and wear No. 84 — for 1984, the year of his birth — for Texas. As long as everything is right mentally and physically, he's a decent bet to hit 40 home runs again, considering the short porch at Rangers Ballpark.

Fielder also came to the press conference in Texas with his kids and his wife, Chanel, whom he divorced earlier in 2013. It was suggested by former teammate Torii Hunter that off-the-field issues had been dogging Fielder and contributed to his on-field results.
