Photo: Hideki Matsui's fans haven't quit on the season yet

Hideki Matsui(notes) won't finish this season like he did the last, but his late-season surge has made some amends for his disappointing start with the Los Angeles Angels. Since Aug. 1, he's hitting .320/.430/.552 with six homers and 26 RBIs. On Monday night, he had a pinch-hit RBI single in the seventh that helped the Halos to a 6-5 win over Oakland.

The 36-year-old slugger only signed a one-year deal with the Angels, so he's set to be a free agent after this season. Los Angeles could bring him back, but that's far from a guarantee with their sights set high with a big offseason budget. At his current paygrade — $6 million — Matsui might be priced into that level where teams like Baltimore, Kansas City or Oakland find him to be a real bargain.

Or he could take his creaky knees out of Disneyland and head to the Texas Rangers for a MVP-caliber season. Hey, it worked for Vladimir Guerrero(notes)!

Whatever the destination, though, you know that Matsui's fans are going to follow him. (And that Godzilla drawing is just great. Can we get that put on a T-shirt?)
