Phillies postpone home opener to Tuesday

Big League Stew

With the Philadelphia area facing "a soaking" forecast for Monday, the Philadelphia Phillies postponed their home opener against the Milwaukee Brewers at Citizens Bank Park until Tuesday at 4:05 p.m. ET. Nothing like a little extra notice — a little over 24 hours, in this case, so fans can get their plans in order. It also allows the Phillies a day at home to relax before picking up the season again. Meanwhile, the Brewers can check out Independence Hall, the National Constitution Center, the Museum of Art or many of the other fine attractions in the area. Run through the 9th Street Italian Market like Rocky, Jonathan Lucroy — you know you want to.

As many teams around Major League Baseball do, the day after the scheduled opener is often left free in case bad weather happens. Rain remains possible for Tuesday, but temperatures will jump 15 degrees or so into the mid 60s. Sounds better than sitting through a certain rain delay. Way to be proactive, Phillies!

Brewers right-hander Kyle Lohse is scheduled to take on right-hander Kyle Kendrick in an all-Kyle pitching matchup.
