Last week's debut episode of Showtime's "The Franchise" featured some pretty cool access with the Miami Marlins. There was Ozzie Guillen being told of his suspension for his Castro comments, Heath Bell seeking a vote of confidence from Guillen after his ninth-inning struggles and team president David Samson doing the technicolor yawn during his 50-mile run to honor those who built Marlins Park. (Nope, no link for that last one.)
It looks like they're upping the ante a little further this week as the program's cameras were able to shoot a feeling-no-pain Giancarlo Stanton before, during and after the knee surgery that kept him from attending last week's All-Star festivities. (Stanton is said to already be walking after the July 9 procedure and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks.)
Despite the Marlins' 43-46 record and distance from the first-place Nationals (nine games), the team should continue being must-see premium cable television. Hopefully the show's producers had a camera on Stanton when he called the brass about these trade rumors that have been surfacing.
