BLS contributor Nick Friedell attended part of today's MLB draft and will file a few reports on the scene at Disney World. His first post concerns the Tampa Bay Rays, who selected high school shortstop Tim Beckham with the draft's first overall pick.
Meet Danielle Ott. She brainstormed for five hours yesterday,
trying to come up with ideas for a shirt she could create and then wear to the MLB Draft. What she came up with was one of the most creative t-shirts I've seen in a while.
The front of the shirt reads "1st Pick (this year), 30th Pick (next year). The back of the shirt reads "Real Hardcore Rays Fans," with a cowbell in the middle.
I stopped Ott to ask her about the shirt and it turns out that she and her mother Elaine, were part of a Rays caravan over to Orlando for the day. The team paid for a group of 50 fans to travel up to Disney to catch the draft and watch the Rays draft first for what they hope be the last time for a long time.
Both women said they enjoyed the entire draft experience, but wished it could have lasted a little longer.
"We would stay the whole day," Ott said "But our bus has to leave."
However, Ott and her mother said they will be back next year.
"Especially if they pick 30th," Elaine said.
