It's hard to argue that there's a better young player in baseball than Mike Trout. Heck, some people will tell you he's the best player in baseball, period.
Trout turned 22 on Wednesday, putting all the exciting catches and excellent offensive numbers into an even more impressive context. He's doing all this while most people his age are trying to figure out what to do with their lives. In honor of Trout's birthday, Yahoo! Sports put together the slideshow below of 22 photos showing how good Mike Trout is at playing baseball. We probably won't be able to do this every year, because Trout will most certainly add more than one highlight before he turns 23.
If you're more a words person, then be sure to check out Jonah Keri's latest over at Grantland, where he talks about Trout's "ridiculous encore performance" to his breakout 2012 campaign. It's full of reasons why Mike Trout might even be better than we think. Among them:
Trout has amassed 7.3 Wins Above Replacement, leading baseball for the second straight year. We'll spare you the Trout vs. Cabrera MVP chatter ... and just say this: Trout's on pace to rack up his second consecutive 10-win season. If he succeeds, he'll become just the second player since Willie Mays to pull that off. The other player to do it? Barry Bonds
Oh, to be 22 and one of the best in the world at what you do. We'd say Happy Birthday, Mike, but we're sure you're already plenty happy.
