The Phillie Phanatic is known for his on field hijinks and having fun at the expense of the Philadelphia Phillies opponents. It's not often, though, that an opponent attempts to strike back and actually gets one over on the Phanatic. Prior to their 6-5 loss to the Phillies on Saturday night, the Atlanta Braves duo of Justin Upton and Chris Johnson joined that select company when they managed to pull off one of the oldest tricks in the book at the Phanatic's expense.
You know the old schoolyard trip? The one where one person gets down on all fours and another sends the unsuspecting victim over with a shove? If you're like me, you were probably on the receiving end, but that's the trick the Braves used. And then got him good right on his home turf.
It happened during pregame warmups as the Braves were going through their stretching routine and the Phanatic was going through his usual taunting routine. He made that one critical mistake though. In his hurry to mock Upton, he turned his back on Johnson, and the duo sent him you know what over tea kettle.
It seemed to be a well coordinated effort, too, so I'm sure it's one the Braves have been thinking about all season. They just finally found their opening, and now the Phanatic is left to ponder how he could have been outsmarted so decisively and so embarrassingly on his home field.
This one will require some serious soul-searching, and it'll be very interesting to see how the Phillie Phanatic bounces back on Sunday.
