Tim for the win: With his wife and family watching at Turner Field on Wednesday night, right-hander Tim Hudson put on a show for his 200th career victory. Not only did he allow three hits over seven innings in the Atlanta Braves 8-1 victory, Hudson hit his third career home run — which glanced off the glove of Washington's Bryce Harper and over the fence in right. He also hit a double against Nationals left-hander Gio Gonzalez, who put it like this (via the Associated Press:
"It was Hudson's night,'' Gonzalez said. ''Tip your cap.''
The Braves, citing information from the Elias Sports Bureau, said Cleveland's Bob Lemon was the only other pitcher to hit a homer in his 200th win. Lemon's milestone came on Sept. 11, 1956.
Panda power: Apparently, San Francisco Giants slugger Pablo Sandoval comes to the plate at home games to the tune of "The Harlem Shake." Reporter Alex Pavlovic of the San Jose Mercury News says Kung Fu Panda was singing "Clique" by Kanye West, Jay-Z and Big Sean (?) as he came to the plate in the ninth inning at Chase Field with the Giants down a run to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Teammate Hunter Pence had put a bug in Sandoval's ear in order to relax him. It worked, because Sandoval took closer J.J. Putz deep, over the pool, for a two-run dinger. Giants win 2-1.
Korea for real: Nice night for Los Angeles Dodgers lefty Hyun-Jin Ryu, who struck out 12 over six innings in a 6-2 victory against the Colorado Rockies. He also got a visit from pop giant PSY, Mr. Gangnam Style himself. Ryu also got support from Hanley Ramirez (not Korean, but willing to learn), who hit a home run in his first start of the season after returning from a thumb injury.
Brewers 12, Pirates 8: The Bucs will never win at Milwaukee again.
Cardinals 2, Reds 1: All left-hander Jaime Garcia needed was a two-run homer by Matt Holliday.
Yankees 7, Astros 4: Hiroki Kuroda pitches four-hit ball over seven and Travis Hafner had three RBI singles.
Tigers 6, Twins 1: Miguel Cabrera hit a home run, and Vance Worley's ERA spiked to 7.22.
Rangers 10, White Sox 6: Offense more than compensates for a mistake Yu Darvish made missing the first-base bag.
Royals 8, Rays 2: James Shields gets better of his former mates.
Athletics 10, Angels 6: Yoenis Cespedes was missed so much.
Orioles 7, Mariners 2: Nate McLouth hit a leadoff home run and it was cake from there.
''It was a fun game. Obviously, it's kind of surreal. No one expects to hit a home run.''
— Tim Hudson
The Cubs announced specific plans to do a "historic renovation" of Wrigley Field. Of course they're historic. Everyone knows the story of Babe Ruth pointing at a giant TV before hitting a home run in the 1933 World Series.
• Hudson is the third active pitcher with 200 victories, including Andy Pettitte and Halladay.
• Darvish had a streak of 18 scoreless innings snapped.
• Milwaukee is 46-7 against the Pirates at Miller Park since 2007, the best record by any team against a division opponent during that stretch, the AP reports.
