Happy 30th anniversary to the ‘Magnum P.I.’ episode with Lou Whitaker, Alan Trammell

Well, well, Stewies, never have you been so lucky. Twice in a week you get to read posts on this here blog starring Tom Selleck. No "Mr. Baseball" references this time. Right now, we'd like to fondly remember the episode of "Magnum P.I." in which Lou Whitaker and Alan Trammell, that wonderful Detroit Tigers double-play connection, had a cameo.

It aired Dec. 1, 1983 — 30 years ago on Sunday. Episode eight of season four, it was a special tale in which Magnum left Hawaii to sleuth out a mystery in his birth city of Detroit. The Tigers middle infielders met him in a bar and helped him get into a sold-out ballgame. Sharp-dressed pair of fellas they were, generous too.

With Whitaker and Trammell making headlines because their numbers are being worn again by a second base-shortstop pair in Detroit, we thought the "Magnum P.I." clip made for even more compelling YouTubing.

Also: you can be sure that Ian Kinsler has never been so generous to Tom Selleck.
