Suspended Texas Rangers slugger Nelson Cruz said on Monday that his involvement with Biogenesis was tied to a gastrointestinal disorder he suffered before the 2012 season.
Meanwhile, over in San Francisco, it appears that Mike Krukow might think that Cruz is still suffering from that tummy bug. Speaking with the eloquence that only a former MLB pitcher can muster, Krukow said Cruz had "taken a dump" on the Texas Rangers by being hit with a 50-game suspension that will keep him out of the AL West pennant race.
Get the man some Immodium, stat!
Here's the full text of what Krukow said during his appearances on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area’s “Giants Pregame Live”:
"I hate to see it happen in the middle of the season, especially as you start to get into the really interesting part of the season. But when is a good time to do it? You know, these guys have brought this down on themselves and when is a good time to reprimand them? Well maybe this is the best time because Nelson Cruz has taken a dump on the Texas Rangers. How do they feel down there, the Texas faithful. They're great fans. They don't deserve this. So I'm sorry this has to happen to them and to that organization and to that fanbase. But you know what? It does has to happen and hopefully if it happens to these guys, everybody around baseball that has a number on their back can maybe say 'I don't want that to happen to me.' And maybe this is what we finally need and maybe this is a good day."
Of course, just as Boston Red Sox star Dustin Pedroia looked awfully hypocritical while railing against an "uneven playing field" on Monday while occupying the same clubhouse with David Ortiz, we have to call out Krukow here. The broadcaster has been one of Barry Bonds' biggest defenders in the past and even famously called Curt Schilling a "horse's ass" when the pitcher accused Bonds of steroid use during Bonds' 2007 campaign to break Hank Aaron's record.
Come to think of it, Krukow didn't take issue with Melky Cabrera's GI tract last year, either.
That said, we identify with Krukow's frustration here. All this crap really poops us out.
