Derek Jeter’s next career move? Book publishing

Big League Stew

Not that Derek Jeter will have any shortage of options once he decides to walk away from his playing career, but the New York Yankees shortstop is already building his post-baseball empire and he's not starting with the typical athlete biz.

He's creating Jeter Publishing, a venture with book giant Simon & Schuster, that will see Jeter identifying and creating new books, according to Publishers Weekly. Adult nonfiction, picture books and middle-grade fiction will be Jeter's turf here. Range is important, right?

Jeter called turning to book publishing:

“[A]n exciting way for me to discover new books, share insights of my own, or from people I believe have interesting stories, philosophies or practices to share.”

It's certainly more distinguished than opening a pizza chain or car dealership. We can vividly imagine Jeter, sitting in a coffee shop, sipping an espresso, glasses resting on his nose as he spends the day combing through manuscripts.

The idea of Derek Jeter, book publisher, already has inspired Sports on Earth to brainstorm Jeter-specific titles. And #JeterBookTitles is going around on Twitter. Here are a few good ones.

Having watched Jeter live a wonderful life, on and off the field for years now, we have no doubt that his company will find the next "Twilight" and he'll become even richer in years to come while making gift baskets for countless more beautiful and talented actresses/models.
