As we continue to crown the best plays of the 2013 baseball season, we move to a category in which, frankly, there is no wrong answer. We're looking at best infield plays. Take away the other four, and each of these plays is a more than a worthy winner. Each is a thing of beauty.
Our finalists include some of the game's best young defensive infielders, guys who could be on lists like these for years to come. Whose play is the best, though? Well, that's for you to decide. Head over to the Big League Stew Facebook page and vote for the play you think is most impressive.
But first, watch them all again, in chronological order:
1. MANNY MACHADO HAS CANNON, WILL USE IT
From July 7: "Machado ranged all the way into foul territory to snag a hard-hit grounder off the bat of the Yankees' Luis Cruz, then stopped and fired a strike from pretty much a different time zone."
2. JOSE IGLESIAS MAKES THE INCREDIBLE LOOK EASY
From Aug. 13: "An all-in-one-motion, bare-handed, catch-and-toss while tumbling toward the ground ... what a thing of beauty and a defiance to physics."
3. ANDRELTON SIMMONS' AMAZING DOUBLE PLAY IN EXTRA INNINGS
From Aug. 18: "[H]e changed directions on a dime and accelerated immediately to cut the ball off. But that was just part one of his remarkable effort. After cutting the ball off, Simmons again had to change directions quickly to beat the runner ... Then capped the play off by making an incredible off balance throw to first base to complete the 6-3 double play."
4.JOSH DONALDSON DIVES OVER TARP FOR CATCH
From Sept. 4: "If you don't see this catch by Oakland's Josh Donaldson on the end-of-season highlight reels for Major League Baseball, it means those plays haven't been made yet. The clock is ticking down."
5. JOSE IGLESIAS MAKES WIZARD-LIKE GRAB IN ALCS
From Oct. 17: "You're watching that thinking, 'There's no way he's going to get that.' Then Iglesias swings out his arm and, good lord, he did it! Everybody was stunned, even the TV announcers. Please do note that Iglesias was playing on the opposite side of second base, because the Tigers were in a shift with David Ortiz at the plate."
