Virginia player’s circus three-pointer is a legitimate contender for shot of the season

Ladies and gentlemen, we have our first serious contender for shot of the season from high school basketball.

Competing against Cave Spring High (Roanoke, Va.) on Tuesday night, William Byrd High (Vinton, Va.) star Marvey’o Otey went careening down the court, chasing after an outlet pass sent a bit too long. When he gathered it in he had just enough time to get the ball from behind his back and hurl it in the general direction of the basket. As he went flying straight out of the gym — he literally ran right through an open door like a scene from a cartoon — his makeshift shot sailed right through the net.

There’s no way he could pull that off again if he tried two dozen times.

Unfortunately for Otey and his Byrd teammates, his eye-popping shot was the biggest highlight from the game, as Cave Spring emerged with a 76-69 victory. Luckily for the Byrd Terriers, something tells us people will remember Otey’s shot a lot longer than that final scoreline.
