Kansas kid swishes 70-foot buzzer beater to send game into overtime

I guess we have to call him Downtown Mikey Brown now.

This 17-year-old Shawnee (Kan.) Marantha Christian Academy junior swished a 70-footer to send his team's first-round game into overtime, deadlocked 80-80 against the hosts of the McClouth (Kan.) Invitational Tournament (h/t Bob's Blitz).

After a missed McLouth free throw that would have set the victory on ice, Brown "grabbed the rebound here, took a dribble, took two steps and then shot it," he told KMBC-TV. "There were just three seconds left on the clock. I didn't really have a choice."

Good times. The call from KAIR Radio's Pat Strathman makes the YouTube video all that much better. "Oh, my goodness," is right. The triple was only Brown's fourth all year. Sadly, the Eagles lost in overtime, 88-87, as a game-winning jumper bounced three times before missing the mark, according to a Kansas City Star report.

Probably should've just handed it to Downtown Mikey Brown from the opposite free throw line. Then again, the local news tried to get Brown to do it again, but he couldn't recreate the shot as Easton Gamoke did a couple weeks ago. There's only one Holy Gamoke.
