On Thursday, Marc Lozoya of Alexander High (Laredo, Tex.) finished just two yards short of a national record for single-game receiving yards with 454. As it turns out, it didn't take long for someone else to break through that glass ceiling.

As reported by the Detroit News and MaxPreps, Chavez Academy (Detroit, Mich.) receiver Nate Drew broke the previous record of 456 yards set by Waldport High (Waldport, Ore.) wide receiver Kraig Pruett, gathering in 17 passes for a total of 459 yards and 7 touchdowns. His heroics helped lift Chavez to a 64-41 victory against Mayville High (Mayville, Mich.).

"It's awesome," Chavez Academy coach Tarif Kumasi told MaxPreps. "I'm speechless. You don't think about records when you're in the heat of the game. That's all we do in practice is run these passing plays and you never imagine something like this."

Fittingly, Drew wasn't the only player who had a banner game against Mayville, with the sophomore passing him the ball also setting a pair of new Michigan state records.

According to the News, Chavez quarterback Omar Salih shattered the prior state single-game passing yardage record of 603 yards by passing for 689 and a record-setting nine touchdowns, one more than the prior mark. He completed 32 of 52 passes in the victory.

Drew's big night was no aberration, with the junior now up to 1,379 yards and 19 touchdowns on the season, accumulated over the course of 70 receptions. Those numbers have earned him significant recruiting attention from the likes of Syracuse and Pittsburgh.

If he keeps racking up stats like he did against Mayville, there's little doubt there will be more schools joining the party soon, too.
