Veterans Day weekend is a big date for anyone with national pride, but particularly those who have a direct connection with the members of the military. Few have a more direct and current connection than the Wedgeworth family from Tifton, Ga.

As brought to Prep Rally's attention by our friends at Online Sports Guys, the Wedgeworth family includes two brothers, Tyler and Ryan. The elder of the two, Tyler, is a member of the Navy who has been deployed overseas throughout his brother's high school football career. Over that time, Ryan Wedgeworth has blossomed into the star quarterback for Tift County High (Tifton, Ga.), leading his team to a 5-5 record as a senior in 2013.

Despite Wedgeworth's senior leadership, Tift County fell short of the playoffs, so the team's final game was its senior night on November 8, the Friday before Veterans Day. Ryan entered the game assuming his high school career would end without his brother being able to take in a game.

But that's when Tyler made an emotional surprise appearance at midfield, sending the entire Wedgeworth family into tears and inspiring Tift County to a 48-32 victory against Brunswick High (Brunswick, Ga.).

Ryan's final performance included 127 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, but that hardly mattered. What was more important was that his brother was in the stands to watch it all.
