A 75-foot buzzer beater steals headlines from superstar teammate

For the most part, Chaminade (Mo.) College Prep's basketball highlights have focused on the exploits of uber-star Bradley Beal, a Florida signee. Yet, not even 44 points from the reigning Gatorade Missouri Boys Basketball Player of the Year in an 82-77 victory over O'Fallon (Ill.) High in St. Louis could overshadow one of the year's best buzzer beaters, which happened to be drilled by a Chaminade teammate.

As seen on a handful of different newspaper websites, Chaminade's Luke Bumgarner somehow managed to drill a 75-foot shot at the halftime buzzer during his team's Coaches vs. Cancer Shootout victory. The shot was more than just academic, given Chaminade's eventual five-point margin of victory.

If that isn't the best baseball shot we've seen, it's certainly on the list. Bumgarner not only hit a nearly full-court shot, he had to elevate and put the baseball-style shot on from mid-air.

While Beal is a top-10 national recruit and a bona fide future superstar, Bumgarner is a role player, the kind of hard-working prep player who grinds his way to 10 points on a good night, as he did against O'Fallon earlier this month.

Perhaps that makes Bumgarner's buzzer beater seem all the more rewarding, as his teammates demonstrated quite clearly with their wild celebrations, despite facing another tough half against one of the toughest foes they would face all year.
