11-year-old English player scores Zidane-like wonder goal of the season

Cameron Smith

It's over. We've got our goal of the season from the 2013-14 soccer campaign, and incredibly it wasn't scored by Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale or even Lionel Messi. It was scored by a mysterious under-12 player for West Bromwich Albion, a Premier League squad in England's Midlands region.

The goal you see above utilizes not one but two Zidane turns -- that's the move where he drags the ball back away from a defender as he spins -- and then an absolute Howitzer of a shot from just outside the area. Naturally, he nailed it.

Perhaps the only thing more surprising than the goal itself is that no one knows who this kiddo is. As the video first began to leak on to the internet the Birmingham Mail -- a newspaper near West Brom's home turf -- asked its readers if they knew who he was. There were no takers.

No matter. That strike could have been scored by Bart Simpson and it would still be the goal of the year. The budding star's triumphant arms aloft celebration only makes it that much better.
